BACKSTAGE BEAUTY: STILL COLD ALYSSA NICOLE FALL 2014 FASHION FILM

This season I was lucky to work with hair stylist and makeup artist Hedy Lavinsky to style my Fall 2014 Collection lookbook. In my previous backstage beauty post, I mentioned that Hedy created a fresh and minimal look focusing on soft and luminous skin. A natural lip with minimal color to complimented the soft curling eyelashes illustrating a fresh youthful look. Hair was set to look polished and feminine with a middle part and teased low ponytail. A navy velvet headband accented the hair style to complement the palette of moody blues throughout the collection.

BEHIND THE SCENES: ‘STILL COLD’ SHORT FILM ALYSSA NICOLE FALL 2014

This season we took a new approach to our traditional fashion film and shot the campaign ad for my Fall 2014 collection as a short film. “Still Cold”, our short film for Alyssa Nicole Fall 2014 was directed by one of my great friends and favorite cinematographers Dexter Ho. Initially when I had met with Dex about my concept for the short film he was very skeptical. I told him I was bringing in a writer this season to write the story for the film. My concept was to create a film which was dreamy and ethereal – maybe even a little chilling – the collection is, after all, entitled “Still Cold”.

BEHIND THE SCENES: ALYSSA NICOLE FALL 2014 ‘STILL COLD’ LOOKBOOK

In my 6 years of experience shooting lookbooks, I finally have photo shoot prepping down to a science. Before each shoot I prepare with my list of handy things to cary on location. Snips, double stick tape, tissue, bobby pins, all ‘must haves’ while shooting on location. I no longer let my pride get the best of me – I come prepared wearing the most comfortable outfit & a tiny backpack (as opposed to a fanny pack) to conveniently hold my necessities as I know I’ll be running around snipping threads and lint rolling dresses during the shoot. Still – with days of preparation for the photo shoot – I’ve come to learn at least one thing will go wrong during the shoot.
