As earth day was yesterday, it’s a reminder to myself design long-lasting sustainable pieces in my collection. At Alyssa Nicole, we believe in sustainability and only work with materials that are rescued deadstock from big fashion houses. In my previous experience working as a designer for fast fashion houses – I’ve seen thousands of yards of fabric go to waste after being over ordered seasonally.
The textile industry uses a variety of chemical dyes and treatments which cause pollution and is hazardous to our health. We only source a limited quantity of readily available materials, this way less waste is contributed by fashion to the textile industry. In the same sense, we produce a limited quantity of our collection to reduce waste of over produced garments each season.
The past few seasons I’ve been working with silk and cotton textiles together to create beautifully lightweight and comfortable pieces. Both textiles produced from natural fibers essentially enhances the luxurious quality in the garment. And if you, like me, desire an airy luxe – yet eco-friendly dress, look no further then my SS15 Collection. The Silk Slip Dress has a low-cut bodice is adorned with luxurious lace for an ultra-feminine approach. Cotton lining and silk chiffon layers fabricate this earthly delight.
