This season we took a new approach to our traditional fashion film and shot the campaign ad for my Fall 2014 collection as a short film. “Still Cold”, our short film for Alyssa Nicole Fall 2014 was directed by one of my great friends and favorite cinematographers Dexter Ho. Initially when I had met with Dex about my concept for the short film he was very skeptical. I told him I was bringing in a writer this season to write the story for the film. My concept was to create a film which was dreamy and ethereal – maybe even a little chilling – the collection is, after all, entitled “Still Cold”.
In between shooting the lookbook we had a quick coffee break at my photogs studio to record the voice over for the film. We had recorded the voice over in two different styles – one spoken very soft and intimate, the other spoken in a whisper which was quiet and chilling. We decided against the whispered voice over because the film could have easily been interpreted as a horror film – which was not the look we were going for. Shooting the video with Dex is always a mystery because he shoots the film while I’m styling the lookbook – so I never actually get to see the film until the final cut. By the time the final edit for the film is complete – I’m filled with excitement to see my collection and concept come to life.
